Welcome to John Lynn photography. I’m based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. My work includes Events, Photojournalism, and Portraits.
I don’t specialize. I like to spread my work across several photographic disciplines that I’ve grown comfortable with and find that their paths often cross. My early days in photography by necessity included lots of darkroom time, and I’ve never lost my love of black and white which can often be more powerful than colour as it strips the subject of that distraction.

In other images like these pictures of St George’s Market in Belfast and ‘The Queen’s Bridge’, colour plays an important part in the overall look.

And as ‘Summer’ is just around the corner, just for fun, here’s a little something to help set the mood. I shot the pictures in various parts of Andalucia, including Jerez and Malaga.
And I can’t resist showing you this amazing video from Vimo that’s just been uploaded to Facebook by my great pals and owners of ‘Sunflower Fest’; Michael and Vanessa Magowan. To watch in full screen for maximum effect, click between the HD and Vimo signs on the bottom right. Don’t miss this:
Manipulating digital images is simply a progression of what used to be done in the darkroom and a lot of the basic techniques remain the same.

- Just before dark
A low winter sun created great atmospherics and roosting Rooks added their own touch to the rather spooky feel of this picture at ‘Greyabbey’ County Down.
And this little picture I titled ‘No Parking’, secured me a number one spot in a ‘Nikon’ competition on perspective.
I make full use of the digital darkroom (to extremes at times) to introduce a surreal quality to my images. In this shot of people in the grounds of City Hall I’ve used both a high viewpoint and ’tilt-shift’ to add to the effect. The same applies to the ‘Mini Buses’ below.

This was made at ‘Laytown Races’ some years ago as the punters gathered for the first race.
The bustle of Belfast on a busy Saturday.
‘Whitehead’ County Antrim.
This style of images falls into the category of photo-Art. Many people make the mistake of confusing Digital art with this type of post production, which has been going on since the earliest days of the darkroom. Pure Digital art on the other hand has no photographic beginnings. All my imagery is based on my own original photographs.

This shot was taken during the tall ships week in Belfast and processed to try to create a postcard drawing effect. There’s no magic button to press; each photo reacts differently according to several factors.
To me, a photograph can be every bit as awe inspiring as a painting or sculpture. There will always be debate about this, but you can’t argue with the old adage of beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

Horse and rider at Laytown beach in Ireland.
Tarifa town on Spain’s Costa de la Luz is full of photographic delights, from Moorish castles to Art-Deco surf shops.
I often see awe inspiring photographs that remind me to always be aware of my surroundings and constantly look for pictures that are only there when you’re in the right frame of mind to see them. I think photography classes should be a requirement in all schools because it makes you see the world rather than just look at it. You’ll get an idea of what I mean HERE
